There may be no American band more thoroughly black metal than Von. They were doing their thing right alongside Darkthrone, Mayhem, Emperor, and Burzum (whose Varg Vikernes brought the band attention by confirming the spelling of their name during a phone interview by saying "VICTORY ORGASM NAZI"; of course being indirectly and unintentionally called a Nazi by Varg Vikernes gets one some unwanted negative press) instead of stumbling on it a few years afterward like everyone else on this side of the pond.

In norwegian and swedish, “varg” means wolf and there are several bands by that name. 1.) Varg is a pagan metal band, founded in Coburg, Germany in 2005. Their lyrical themes include Germanics and Germanic paganism. 2.) Varg was also a black metal band from Freiburg, Germany. The band was founded in 2004 and split up after a demo in the same year. The last known line up was: Johannes - vocals Evgenij - guitar Stefan - guitar Hans - drums Dominic - bass 3.) Varg is a Swedish rac band singing revolutionary, anti-establishment lyrics, critcising politicians, nationalists and “decadence” (sic). Their album När Gudar Oss Kallar, “When Gods Us Summons” clearly spells out their pagan affiliations. The album cover has several black suns, a pagan symbol favoured by neo-nazis usually and there is a written reference to zion’s power… The music in itself is quite melodic with strong vocals, folky and very unlike the nsbm the band’s imagery aspires to, maybe they have invented the nsbm ballad? 4.) Varg is a Norwegian rock band from Kvinesdal. They released their debut album Proud To Be A Wanker ” in 2009.
