Beyoncé Embraces Netflix Buffering Gag in New Christmas NFL Halftime Teaser

Beyoncé has joined the Netflix buffering trend as part of the promotion for her upcoming NFL Halftime Show performance. On December 24, the 43-year-old global icon unveiled a 30-second teaser, giving fans a glimpse of what to expect during the Christmas Day NFL doubleheader streaming on Netflix.

In the teaser, Beyoncé is seen seated on a football field, exuding Western charm in a long shawl, a glittering top, a wide-brimmed hat, and black sunglasses. Strumming a banjo to the tune of her hit song “Texas Hold ‘Em,” she suddenly pauses, lowers her sunglasses, and the scene cuts to a buffering wheel spinning on screen. This lighthearted reference playfully nods to Netflix glitches, such as those that marred the Mike Tyson-Jake Paul boxing match in November. The teaser ends with Beyoncé’s giggle and a signature wink to the camera.

Alongside the teaser, she posted on Instagram: “I’m sending you big joy and love on this Cowboy Christmas Eve. I’ll see y’all tomorrow, in my city HTX.”

A Return to Houston for Christmas Day

The performance will mark a significant moment for Beyoncé, as she takes the stage at Houston’s NRG Stadium, her hometown venue. Scheduled during halftime of the Texans vs. Ravens game, her set is among the most anticipated highlights of the Christmas Day football lineup.

This event also marks Beyoncé’s first live performance since releasing her chart-topping album Cowboy Carter. NFL first teased her halftime appearance back in November with a cinematic promo of the singer standing atop a rose-adorned vintage car, effortlessly catching a football. The teaser, accompanied by her album’s opening track “American Requiem,” hinted at the themes and songs that might feature in her setlist.

Christmas Day NFL Highlights

The Christmas Day doubleheader begins with:

  1. The Kansas City Chiefs facing off against the Pittsburgh Steelers at 1 p.m. ET.
  2. The Texans vs. Ravens game at 4:30 p.m. ET, where Beyoncé’s halftime performance will take center stage.

Fans can stream the games and the performance live on Netflix, with additional regional and mobile access available via NFL+.

Beyoncé’s NFL Halftime Legacy

That would be Beyoncé's first NFL halftime appearance in well over a decade. The pop superstar memorably had a reunion with Destiny's Child during her 2013 Super Bowl performance, and she delivered a scintillating mid-game set with Coldplay and Bruno Mars in 2016. So, as she is back on the stage, this will be another moment her fans are waiting to experience in her legendary career.
