Copyright & Content Notices

Last updated:

Songarea publishes song pages alongside artist and album stories. The words to a song remain the property of the people who wrote or own them. The same applies to recordings, cover art and photographs. Our own articles and site design have their own copyright. Opening a page here gives you no permission to copy somebody else's work into a release, video or commercial project.

Have you found your work here?

Email [email protected] and put Songarea in the subject. You will find that address on our contact page as well. Send the full page link, then tell us what belongs to you and what you want us to look at. A screenshot may help explain a photograph or a particular part of an article, but please include the page address too.

One email can cover several pages. List the links separately and make clear which work is involved in each case. We should be able to find the item from your message without having to search the entire catalogue.

Sending a copyright notice

For a formal claim, please include:

  • The work you own or are authorised to represent, and the location of the disputed material.
  • Your contact information and a physical or electronic signature.
  • A statement of your good-faith belief that the use is not authorised by the owner, its agent or the law.
  • Confirmation that the information is accurate and, under penalty of perjury, that you are authorised to act for the owner of the right concerned.

We review rights reports and may take the material down or restrict access. Sometimes we need another detail before we can identify what happened. We may contact the contributor too. A claim needs to be assessed; this page does not promise a particular decision in advance.

Something is wrong, but it is not a rights claim

If a song has a misspelt title or an incorrect credit, say so in your message. An ordinary correction does not need a formal infringement notice. Use the same address for either kind of enquiry and explain the issue plainly.

Contributions are reviewed, and repeated misuse can result in submissions being refused. Please send only material you are entitled to provide. For permission to perform, record or reuse a song, approach its rights holder. Songarea cannot give permission on that person's behalf.
