Privacy Policy & Data Use

Last updated:

Songarea lets you explore songs, artist catalogues and music stories without opening a reader account. This notice explains what happens to information when you browse, send us a correction or contact the person who runs the site. For privacy questions, write to [email protected] or use our contact page.

What a visit leaves behind

Like other websites, Songarea receives the network address needed to deliver a page. Web-server records can also include the requested address, time, browser information and the referring page. A search term can appear in those records because it forms part of the search URL. We use operational information to investigate errors, maintain the service and deal with abusive requests.

The site also creates a protected identifier from a network address when limiting repeated searches, submissions or login attempts. That counter helps keep a busy endpoint available. It is not a public reader profile.

Information you choose to send

A lyrics submission contains the song title, artist and text you provide. The form also allows a name and email address. We keep submissions for editorial review; sending one does not publish it automatically. The contact form sends us your name, email, subject, message and any page address you include. We use those details, or a message you email directly, to handle your enquiry. Please leave passwords, payment details and unrelated personal information out of a correction.

Cookies, themes and outside services

Your light or dark theme is saved in this browser's local storage. You can remove that preference through the browser's site-data controls. The contact and contribution forms use a session cookie for request security. Editors have separate login cookies; choosing to remember an editor login can keep that login available for up to 30 days.

Songarea displays advertising through Google AdSense. Loading ads can send connection information to Google and its advertising partners. Cookies or similar technologies may be used to serve and measure ads. You can read more about this in Google's information about partner sites. Images hosted elsewhere and embedded video players also contact their providers, which apply their own privacy terms. Following an outside link takes you to a separate service.

Keeping control of your information

We use information to run the site, protect it and answer requests, rather than to sell visitor profiles. Hosting and email services may process the records needed for those jobs. We retain enquiries and submissions while they remain useful for review, follow-up or resolving a dispute; security and legal obligations can require some records to be kept longer.

You can ask about access, correction or deletion by contacting us. Depending on the law that applies, you may also have rights to restrict processing, object or complain to a data-protection authority. We may need enough information to verify that a request concerns your records. This notice will be updated if the site's data practices change.
