Shakira Postpones Lima Concert Following Hospitalization

Shakira has been compelled to postpone her show in Lima, Peru, originally set for Sunday, February 16. The legendary singer was scheduled to headline at Estadio Nacional as part of her highly publicized 'Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran' tour, which kicked off on February 11 in Rio De Janeiro. A sudden medical condition led to her hospitalization, hence the change of plans.

Hospitalization and Official Statement

Last Sunday afternoon, Shakira took to social media to report on her state of health. She posted that she had spent the previous evening in the emergency room due to an "abdominal issue" and remained under observation by medical staff. "The physicians handling my care right now have made me aware that I am not in good enough health to make it on stage tonight," she explained. It really makes me sad to not be able to get up on stage today."

In a display of disappointment, the global star announced her willingness to meet with her Peruvian fans. She also wished for her quick recovery, stating, "I hope to be discharged and feeling better tomorrow so I can continue with the show." Shakira assured the fans that her team and the organizers of the event were working day and night to organize a new date for the concert in Lima. "Thank you all for your understanding. I love you all. Shak," she concluded.

A Much-Anticipated Tour and Grammy Win

Honoring her return to the road in seven years, 'Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran' comes as a companion to Shakira's fresh 2024 album of the same name, which just saw her take home the Grammy Award for Best Latin Pop Album. Boasting that it's ahead of its time with production, the tour features gargantuan 160-foot screens and innovative CGI-animated interludes, creating an experience like no other.

Future Tour Dates and Upcoming Projects

Even this disaster, however, will not dampen Shakira's schedule; she is still due to perform in her hometown of Barranquilla, Colombia, on Friday, February 21. Subsequent concerts are set for Medellín, Bogotá, Santiago, Buenos Aires, Monterrey, Guadalajara, and Mexico City, closing on March 30.

Later this spring, she will launch the North American leg of the tour. The original schedule, released last October, was pushed back to upgrade venues from arenas to stadiums because of overwhelming demand.

Shakira's Enduring Legacy

In a four-star review, NME memorialized 'Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran' as fiercely artistic, highlighting the way Shakira was continuing to dominate the Latin pop world. Unlike at least one other album with her having included English-language songs, this release is entirely in Spanish, describing its emotional impact as well as musically its range.

Most recently, Shakira dedicated her fourth Grammy to immigrants worldwide. "You're loved, you're worth it, and I will always fight with you," she declared. To honor working women who hold their families together, she called them "the true she-wolfs," further cementing her role as an advocate of empowerment and strength.
